Drakensfruit or Pitaya

Almost a year ago I started trying out exotic fruits. After a few I couldn't find any new at my supermarket.
Last week I found a new one: Drakensfruit or sometimes called Pitaya.

When I bought it, I didn't know what to expect. This weird cactus-like fruit with red, green and a bit of yellow.

When I got home I cut it open and I was surpriced by the bright pink colour. I do not think I have ever seen the colour with any fruit.

I really wondered what it would taste like.
Well here I wil try to explain what I tasted.
The first piece I tried was a little watery. but the middle of the fruit wat quite sweet. The little seeds in it made me think of a kiwi, but this fruit is sweet and nothing even close to the taste of a kiwi (just the texture and mouth sensation is simelar).

You should try one some time. I liked it

Continent box South-America #2 the tast of...

Hi travelers,

Today again a little peek in my South-American continent box. At the last peek you have already seen to pictures of fruit. Today more of my fruit and spices cards.

South America has many unknown fruits and spices. We know many from Asia, but some how the ones from South-America stayed less known.

Have you ever seen these pieces of fruit? I know I never have. They are Carambola and Pitaya (never heard of either). Wow some look even stranger than others.

Some other 'new' tasts come from the different spices. To bad you can't smell the picture.

I printed the cards (A6 size) and laminated them. I made only six fruit cards, but making this blog I think I'll make some more. There are so many strange pieces of fruit.

National Anthem: Argenina

The third national anthem I choose is the one from Argenina. The anthem is already more than 200 years old. It was adopted as national song in 1813, three years after the May Revelution.
In 1924 they shortend the song letting out the part about the vivid attacks agains Spain.

What I like about is the music. There are many instrument to hear like a complete symphony orchestra, that makes the song very rich.
Luckly there are video clips with english subtitels because otherwise I wouldn't have a clue what they sang about.

For the everybody who can read it, here's the lyrics:

Oíd, mortales, el grito sagrado:
"¡Libertad! ¡Libertad! ¡Libertad!"
Oíd el ruido de rotas cadenas
ved en trono a la noble igualdad

Ya su trono dignísimo abrieron
las Provincias Unidas del Sud
y los libres del mundo responden:
"¡Al gran pueblo argentino, salud!"
"¡Al gran pueblo argentino, salud!"
Y los libres del mundo responden:
"¡Al gran pueblo argentino, salud!"
Y los libres del mundo responden:
"¡Al gran pueblo argentino, salud!"

Sean eternos los laureles,
que supimos conseguir,
que supimos conseguir.
Coronados de gloria vivamos...
o juremos con gloria morir!
O juremos con gloria morir!
O juremos con gloria morir!

DIY: making your own Pan Flute

Today we're going to make a musical instrument, the pan flute. Let's find out what a pan flute is.

The pan flute or pan pipe is an ancient musical instrument based on a principle of the closed tube, consisting usually of five or more pipes of gradually increasing length (and at times, girth).

The pan flute has long been popular as a folk intrument in Peru and Bolivia, and is considered the first mouth organ, ancestor of both the pipe organ ant the harmonica. The pan flute is named for its association with the Greek god Pan. The pipes of the pan flute are typically made for bamboo or giant cane; other materials used include wood, plastic metal and ivory.
So now we can start.

Let's first see what we need:

- scissors
- gluw
- straws
- two pieces of cardboard
- paint or something else to color it.
When you have gathered all these things, let's get started.

Cut the cardboard in two pieces each 1 inch by 3 inches, but really the exact sice doesn't really matter.
Put glew on one piece of the cardboard and stick the straws to it.

Now put gluw on the second piece of cardboard and place it on top of the straws like you see in the picture above.

Now you have to wait a little till the gluw is dried up

When the gluw is dries up you need your scissors. Depending on how much straws you used you cut the right nummer short. I used 18 so devided them in groups of three

Now all you have to do is decorate the cardboard and ready you are

Have much fun making your own pan flute!
