Continent box Antarctica #2 life at the continent

Hallo travelers,

We're going back to the cold south today to look at the animals at Antarctica. With the freezing cold at the continent there aren't many animals, a few birds, seals and whales.

I'm trying to collect lots of different (plastic) pinguïns and other animals, but it isn't going fast so far. I decided also to make cards (A6 size) with pictures and names of the animals. I searched the internet (google) for nice pictures of six different pinguïns (Adelie pinguin, King pinguin, Emperor pinguin, Gentoo pinguin, Rockhopper pinguin, Macaroni pinguin)

I also looked for pictures of diffrent mammals that live in the sea, ten different seals and whales.

I printed the cards and laminted them to put in my continent box.

Here my mammal cards.

The people of Africa are on of the things that shows the variety of the continent. Their skin color is a little different every place you go, their clothes, their habits, their life.

I made 30 cards with pictures of the people of Africa, beautiful portrets from 30 different countries.
Here are a few.

these are actually the old ones. I re-did them and wrote the country under it.
Here are some.

Continent box South-America #2 the tast of...

Hi travelers,

Today again a little peek in my South-American continent box. At the last peek you have already seen to pictures of fruit. Today more of my fruit and spices cards.

South America has many unknown fruits and spices. We know many from Asia, but some how the ones from South-America stayed less known.

Have you ever seen these pieces of fruit? I know I never have. They are Carambola and Pitaya (never heard of either). Wow some look even stranger than others.

Some other 'new' tasts come from the different spices. To bad you can't smell the picture.

I printed the cards (A6 size) and laminated them. I made only six fruit cards, but making this blog I think I'll make some more. There are so many strange pieces of fruit.

Continent box Australia #2 What people make

Hi there,

We're going to look at the continent Australia today and what the people make (stemps and instruments).
The continents are not only being represented by what the continent grows but also by what the people living in it make. Stemps are often tiny works of art that picture all the thinks that a country is proud of. Instruments are made by men and they make the sound of the continent.

Here what I collected so far.

DIY cards with instruments on it.
The fruit cards will be mentioned in a lter

Australian and New Zealand stemps

In my continent box I have different ways of collecting the African animals. I'll show you.

A plastic camel, lion cub, jaguar, vulture and a stone elephant.

 Five drawings on postcards

And these cards. A selection form a supermarket collection "Super Animals" sponsort by the WNF (WWF)

Continent box Antarctica #1

Hi dear readers,

Today I will take you to the most Southern place in the world, Antarctica. It is a really special continent.
- Its the only continent that doesn't have a country (only territories)
- Its the only continent where nobody lives permanently (only the people staying in the research centers)
- Its is the coldest, driest, and windiest continent.
- 98% of the continent is covered under ice. This is 90% of all the ice in the world.

It is a difficult continent to make a box of.
For my continent box a made a piece of landscape!
I used styofoam, silver foil, transparent flower plastic and a glue gun. And for a finishing touch paper snowflacks.

Continent box Australia #1

Hi guys,

We are going Down Under today.

Australia is a continent comprising mainland Australia, Tasmania, New Guinea, Seram, possibly Timor, and neighbouring islands.
It is the smallest of the seven traditional continents in the English conception. New Zealand is not part of the continent of Australia, but of the separate, submerged continent of Zealandia. New Zealand and Australia are both part of the wider regions known as Australasia and Oceania.

I like to think that New Zealand is part of the continent Australia.

For my continent box I have the next things to start with.

This is a home made memory game with all kinds of Australian animals in Aboriginal drawings.
In a later blog I will tell more about it and how you can make one yourself.

This is a dunnant stemp made out of wood.

Thes chells are 'cerithium vertagus'. You can find them in Australia and Asia.

A little statue of a coala bear and it's young.

Continent box Africa #1

Hi everybody,

Today we're going to travel to the continent of Africa. It's a really big continent with 54 countries. So there are lots of things to explore and discover about Africa.

Today we're going to Egypt!
In 2012 I went to Egypt for a holiday with my parents. We made a Nile Cruise for a week and we've seen the many wonders of Egypt (exept for the piramids)
I've you've been there you probably agree with me about the beauty and historical feeling the country gives. I've visited many old (very old) buildings in Europe, but walking through the Egyptian Temples really made me feel I traveled back in time.

Egypt has a very long and rich history so there are many items to find to represent Egypt. Here are the once I have collected so far:

Continent box Europe #1

Hi everybody,

I have many plans and ideas for my blog so where should I start. actually that isn't a very hard question. I will start with my home country ofcourse. Holland or The Netherlands as I prefer. Why? I'll tell you:

The Netherlands is the right name for the country I live in. however to many it is known as Holland. Holland extually refurs to two of the province of The Netherlands. There are actually 12 province.
This you-tube clip explains it al:

Okay, it may still be a bit confusing, but I like the clip.

For my continent boxes it's easy to find things that tell about The Netherlands: postcards of famous dutch painters, stuff in the color orange (since that is the color that everybody wears on national days like queens/kings day and internation sport events), wooden clocks, tulps, stemps, old dutch guldens (coins before the euro came) and so on.

It is actually reather difficult to make a choice... what will I put in the box to represent The Netherlands. I can't put in all. If I do it will be a box about the Netherlands, not about Europe.

Here some pictures of my things:

Vincent van Gogh paintings on a postcard

some more postcards
dutch products (Calve, Unox, etc)
wooden clocks
Delfts blauwe tegeltjes (Delfs blue tiles)
A cow
a orange 'shirt' to put over you beer bottle
